What are the Types of Businesses Operating in Kosovo?

Individual Business: The business owner has unlimited liability for all company debts. The company name must include the owner's first and last name, plus the abbreviation "Biznes Indivudal" (B.I.).

All partners have unlimited liability for the company's debts. The Albanian name of a general partnership in Kosovo is "Ortakëri e Përgjithshme", and the abbreviation "O.P." (or “G.P.” in English) must be added to the company name.

While some partners' liability for the company's debts is limited to the capital they contribute, others have unlimited liability. The Albanian name of a limited partnership must include the abbreviation “O.K." (Ortakëri e Kufizuar) or “L.P.” in English.

: Limited liability companies are the most common type and they are established by one or more founders, and the partners' liability for the company's debts is limited to the capital they have paid. The Albanian name of a limited liability company is "Shoqëritë me Përgjegjësi të Kufizuara", and the company name must include the abbreviation "SH.P.K." or "L.L.C." in English. There is no initial capital requirement for an L.L.C.

: These are organizations whose capital is divided into shares, and shareholders are liable for all debts and obligations of the company only to the extent of the value of their shares. The Albanian name of a joint-stock company is "Shoqëritë Aksionare" and the company name must include the abbreviation "SH.A" or "JS.C." in English. To establish a joint-stock company in Kosovo, the initial capital amount of the company must be at least €10,000.

Company Establishment in Kosovo

Before establishing a company, first the type of the company should be decided. Secondly, fields of activities should be defined, based on the Activity Code List and then the company can be registered at the Kosovo Business Registration Agency (ARBK). Registration takes approximately one week.
